Welcoming Congregation

We warmly welcome and include people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, ages, races, beliefs, ...

In 2001 our Grand River Unitarian Congregation voted to become part of the Canadian Unitarian Council's Welcoming Congregation Program. This is a volunteer program for Unitarian Universalist congregations that want to take intentional steps to become more welcoming and inclusive of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We consider this to be important because of the specifically religious prejudices that have made 2SLGBTQIA+ people unwelcome in so many houses of worship. Please see Rev. Jessica Purple Rodela’s powerful sermon on LGBTQ bullying, When Rainbows Fade. Please see our LSGBTQIA+ page for more on Unitarian Universalism activism on queer issues.

We make a special effort to make our facilities accessible and be aware of sensitivities.

In recent years, our congregation has sponsored refugees from Columbia, Syria, and Afghanistan.
